Hello, we are RADIAN , the shoe cobbler located in Aichi prefecture, Japan. We specialize in repairing and customizing dress shoes and boots ,etc.
Today’s topic is about an issue every sneaker addict has been troubled with.
It’s HYDROLYSIS.
Chemical materials such as polyurethane and EVA are used for many of sneaker soles for getting light weight and cushioning, and this is the cause of hydrolysis. The chemical materials crumble away by absorbing water from the air little by little over long years.
When you walk with a sneaker, moisture gets out of soles which helps your sneaker getting hydrolyzed.
But what if you put it away into shoe box for a long time, you’ll know what will happen.
Hydrolysis is inevitable, it’s a kind of deterioration over time. There are some ways delaying hydrolysis like using shoe tree. But once your sneaker gets hydrolyzed, is there any solution for it?
The answer is YES.

Soles and toe rubber were also crumbled away, so this time we resoled and made upper part by tanned leather, too.
